D.C. Supreme Court Justice Judith Pipe has rescheduled an Oct. 2 status hearing due to misunderstandings surrounding the defense’s filing of a motion for a bond review.

Kevin Settles, 37, is charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, four counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convict, armed carjacking, attempted unarmed carjacking, assault on a police officer while armed, unlawful discharge of a firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm and carrying a handgun without a license outside his home or business.

These charges stem from his alleged involvement in a non-fatal shooting in the 3000 block of B Street, SE, and also in the 100 block of Ridge Road, SE, where he also allegedly shot at police officers.

Settles’ defense attorney, Brian McDaniel, requested Judge Pipe Settles’ release, saying he made a written request in September.

However, Judge Pipe and the prosecution said the motion was never filed.

McDaniel said he would file another application as soon as possible.

Judge Pipe ruled that she would not make a decision on the application until she had seen the application. Settles’ release would be discussed at another hearing date.

The court is scheduled to reconvene on October 16.
