One dead in overnight house fire on Peoria’s south side

PEORIA (25News Now) – Late Wednesday, Peoria firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at the corner of Garden and Greenlawn last night at 9:27 p.m.

En route to the home, Peoria police reported heavy smoke coming from the home and the first responding fire department on scene was notified that there was one person still inside the home.

During a search of the house, one victim was found dead.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control within 40 minutes and the cause is still under investigation. The fire caused an estimated $85,000 in damages.

The victim’s name will be released by the Peoria County Coroner. No other injuries were reported.
