Beaufort Co. man charged with criminal solicitation of a minor

BEAUFORT COUNTY, Sc. (WTOC) – A Beaufort County man is charged by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division with criminal solicitation of a minor.

According to an arrest warrant filed by SLED, 35-year-old Harvey Mackenzie Bethea repeatedly solicited a 16-year-old to engage in or participate in sexual acts.

The arrest warrant also states: “He asked the victim what she would do in exchange for a puppy.”

When the 16-year-old said she would pay for the puppy, Bethea repeatedly made suggestions to her over several days, according to the arrest warrant.

The arrest warrant states that the 16-year-old reported the incidents to law enforcement.

Bethea was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center.
