Teutopolis FPD responded to a multi-vehicle accident in the I-70 construction zone on Wednesday

Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Teutopolis Fire Protection District Facebook page:

On Wednesday 10/2/2024 at 4:59 p.m., Teutopolis was dispatched to Interstate 70 eastbound at mile marker 101.5 with automatic assistance from Montrose for a multi-vehicle accident. This is within the ongoing construction zone. Due to the location of the incident, emergency crews were required to use the 1800th Street overpass and transport equipment to the scene.

When they arrived there were two semi-trucks and a pickup truck with a trailer. The driver of the pickup truck was trapped in the wreckage. The extrication took 56 minutes from arrival. The Air Evac medical helicopter transported the driver to a trauma center. Two other people were transported to a local hospital by Rural Med EMS. The center barrier wall was partially moved into the westbound lane and reset by IDOT and contractor crews.

The fire department cleared the scene of the accident at 6:43 p.m. ISP Troop 9 is investigating the cause of the accident.
