The starting lineup for the weekend’s first Mustang Challenge race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was set based on driver points after Zachry Lee suffered an accident in qualifying that left no timed laps for any competitor.

Lee, the Dark Horse Legends class leader, made heavy contact with the tire barriers at Turn 6 in his No. 48 McCumbee McAleer Racing Ford Mustang Dark Horse R on his out lap in the 15-minute session, resulting in an immediate red Flag led.

Extensive track cleaning meant that time ran out and the session could not be resumed.

Therefore, championship leader Robert Noaker, who was fastest in the second practice session on Wednesday, will start this afternoon’s race alongside his Robert Noaker Racing teammate and title rival Tyler Maxson.

Sam Paley, Jeremy Fletcher and Reid Sweeney will be third, fourth and fifth respectively.

It is unclear whether Lee, who has a sizeable 370-point lead over Alex Bachoura in the DHL class, will be able to start the race as his car appears to have sustained significant damage.

Race 1 begins at 1:15 p.m. EDT with live coverage on Peacock, IMSA.tv and the Ford Performance YouTube channel.
