Actor and singer Jamie Foxx will take the stage in Atlanta starting Thursday to discuss his recent health scare.

In the one-man show called “What Had Happened Was,” Foxx tells his story of a health crisis that led to his hospitalization in Atlanta last year while filming a movie.

Despite the serious subject matter, Foxx promises the event will be an evening of laughter, reflection and genuine connection.

The show runs Thursday through Saturday on the Coca-Cola Stage at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta.

Even though tickets aren’t available for the shows, you don’t have to worry about missing out. Foxx has a deal with Netflix to air the special at a later date.

Jamie Foxx’s medical emergency

In April 2023, Foxx’s daughter Corrinne posted a statement on Instagram that her father had suffered a “medical complication.”

“We wanted to share that my father Jamie Foxx experienced a medical complication yesterday,” Corinne Foxx wrote in the now-deleted April 12 post. “Fortunately, thanks to quick action and great care, he is already on the road to recovery.”

Foxx was in Atlanta to film the Netflix film “Back in Action” with Cameron Diaz.

For weeks his condition was unknown and rumors circulated that he was in a coma. In December, Foxx gave his first public speech since his hospitalization and admitted he was unable to move for a time.

“I’ve been through something. I’ve been through a lot. You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago. I actually couldn’t walk,” Foxx said after receiving the Vanguard Award Celebration of Cinema and Television: Honoring the Achievements of Black, Latino and AAPI, hosted by the Critics Choice Association. “It feels good to be here. I appreciate every single minute now. It’s different… I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy. Because it’s hard… when it’s almost over.”

Although the situation was frightening, Foxx said he was grateful he was in Atlanta at the time.

“Atlanta saved my life because I was here when it happened,” Foxx said. “If I had been somewhere else…”
