“This group deserves a big community party after overcoming such unexpected obstacles. We are ready to sing, dance and just be with our friends, families and supportive community,” said Alison Skinner, SMC Music Director.

The rescheduled October date will shift the focus from a lively summer vibe to a fun, festive fall celebration, with an afternoon of music, dancing, raffles and fellowship, all in support of the Sierra Master Chorale programs.

Audiences can listen and dance to the music of “Sons of Boogie” and “Then Again,” both bands being members of the Sierra Master Chorale.

“Sons of Boogie” offers a lively mix of rocking blues and popular nostalgic hits from the 70s and 80s. With smooth vocal harmonies and energetic stage antics, their main goal is to get everyone dancing. Original members Dave McLellan (lead guitar) and Doug Morgan (bass), both former SMC singers, have been playing together since the late 1970s. Power drummer Kevin Woolard joined them in the early 1990s. In 1997 they welcomed lead singer and harpist Steve Mendoza (SMC tenor and ICS board member) and guitarist John Liron.

“Then Again” plays the music of The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel, Carole King, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby Stills and Nash and more from the late 50s to early 80s. The band includes SMC members Kathy Chastain (vocals, keyboards) and Steve Nicholson (vocals, bass guitar) as well as James May (vocals, guitar) and Ben Schley-May (drums). With three-part vocal harmonies and classic songs, they bring an infectious spirit of fun to their performances and encourage the audience to dance and sing along.

Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a picnic lunch or dinner. However, alcohol is not permitted outdoors. Freshly popped popcorn and treats from CoCo’s Lazy Dog Confectioners will be available for purchase, along with draft beer from Grass Valley Brewery, kombucha from Gold Vibe Kombuchary, a selection of wines from Alta Sierra Wine Shop, and a selection of non-alcoholic beverages.

Since this event is a fundraiser for the choir, there will be exciting raffle prizes and other fun ways to support the SMC. Bring the whole family; However, pets are not allowed.

The Sierra Master Chorale is a top-class community choir made up of certified singers who traditionally perform with the InConcert Sierra Orchestra. Founded in 2008, the Chorale is a program of the local classical music nonprofit InConcert Sierra, founded in 1946.
