The Sopranos star speaks out in the final scene of the HBO show: “I was annoyed”

One of the main actors of The sopranos is not happy with her final scene in the show.

The HBO series ended in 2007 with a finale that is still being meticulously analyzed today. It features a seemingly ordinary but extremely tense restaurant scene between Tony (James Gandolfini) and his family, which ends with the screen going black.

Viewers were taken aback by this moment, and over the years many assumed that this stylistic choice symbolized the show’s protagonist being “punched.” Since then, creator David Chase has repeatedly accepted requests for clarification – and in 2020 even spoke of a “death scene”.

Now, a few weeks after Chase highlighted a season 3 scene that could reveal the “truth” behind what actually happened, Lorraine Bracco, who plays Tony’s therapist Dr. Jennifer Melfi played, openly slammed in her character’s final appearance.

Melfi’s final appearance comes in the penultimate episode and shows her cutting ties with a visibly upset Tony – and Bracco said she was “not very happy” that this was the end of their relationship.

“I wasn’t very happy with how David ended it either,” she told the SiriusXM show The Spotlight with Jessica Shawadded: “I thought it was bad and wrong. I was annoyed. I told him, ‘How do you invest five years in someone’s life and then just walk away?’ I said, ‘That’s not cool.’ And you know, it was.”

While many believe that Tony died when the screen went black in the finale, Bracco is more optimistic.

Expressing hope that he survived Goodfellas The actor said: “Honestly, I think they met at restaurants and things like that. I don’t know. I think part of me wants to believe that she broke up with him for a moment and they got back together, back in therapy. I could believe that.”

Bracco recently revealed this in a two-part documentary Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos that she watched the finale live with Gandolfini, who had no idea how Chase had decided to end the show.

“I was with Jim and he said, ‘That’s it?!’ she said, adding: “He couldn’t believe it.”

Meanwhile, Drea de Matteo, who played Adriana La Cerva, said the abrupt transition to black made her think there had been a power outage, explaining: “I started calling everyone and being like, ‘Yo, is my TV right now?’ failed?’”
