Glendale police make an arrest in a drive-by shooting in March

GLENDALE, AZ – Glendale police have made an arrest in a drive-by shooting in March. According to court documents, two homes were hit, including one with a small child inside.

Aiden Perez, 21, was arrested in late September, but police told ABC15 the investigation is ongoing.

The horrific moments were captured on camera in the early hours of March 3rd. Police say they believe someone in the silver car fired shots twice in about an hour near 59th Avenue and Olive Avenue. Ultimately, shots hit two occupied houses, including one where there was a small child.

The 8-year-old’s home was hit twice and a car in the driveway was hit once. Court documents appear to indicate that a bullet/projectile was found in a child’s bed at the other home. From the description in these documents it appears that there was no child in this bed at the time.

A neighbor who did not want to give her name told ABC15 she heard the gunshots that night.

“The neighbor came over,” this neighbor described. “He rang the bell. He asked if there was any damage to our house because he had seen it [bullet holes] on the side of his house.

She said the whole incident was scary because her house faced the street.

“Anything can happen, and we also have grandchildren in the house,” said the neighbor.

Surveillance video, license plate readers and cell phone data led Glendale police to arrest 21-year-old Aiden Perez on Sept. 24.

On Wednesday, neighbors were relieved to hear an arrest had been made in the case. However, ABC15 was told by Public Information Officer Moroni Mendez that this investigation is ongoing.

“There are probably more people involved,” Mendez said. “Our investigators are looking into this. Apparently there are more people who need to be interviewed.”

He said investigators believe they may be juveniles, and court documents mention at least one other unnamed suspect.

Perez appeared before a judge and was charged with several charges, including endangerment.

The victims, who were home with their child at the time of the shooting, gave a statement in court.

“You are still suffering from your child’s anxiety and fear of being at home in their own house,” the judge read. “So they definitely don’t want the defendant to be released.”

Perez’s attorney argued that his client was not a flight risk and he surrendered himself. But the judge offered his own thoughts before setting Perez’s bail at $200,000.

“You are very lucky that no one had to get up in the middle of the night because you could face a murder charge instead,” the judge said.

A co-defendant was also mentioned during Perez’s first appearance. ABC15 is working to determine if police have made any additional arrests.

Court documents say Perez was known to some of the victims’ relatives, but any motive is unclear.
