20-year-old Richland County Highway Dept. worker. killed in an industrial accident

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP – A 20-year-old Richland County Highway Department worker was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a vehicle during a road maintenance job on Bowman Street Road.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Mansfield Post, Trenton Gallaway of Lucas was outside of a highway department vehicle when he was struck by a vehicle attempting to pass on the left around 2:24 p.m

The patrol said the county highway department was conducting temporary maintenance on the roadway along Bowman Street Road between Myers Road and Amoy West Road.

Troopers said Delana Kunz, 43, of Shelby, was driving a white 2019 Nissan Rogue SUV southeast on Bowman Street Road, south of Myers Road, when the vehicle collided with Gallaway.

According to the patrol, Gallaway was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were assisted by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Township Fire & EMS, Weller Township Fire & EMS, the Richland County Coroner’s Office and Ronk’s Towing.

According to police, the crash is still under investigation.
