Suspect in attempted Chico kidnapping faces new criminal charges

The man accused of trying to kidnap a young girl on the streets of Chico was back in court on Wednesday, October 2nd.

According to prosecutors, 49-year-old Jose Alvarado-Rodriguez stalked an intoxicated 18-year-old for some time before trying to drag her into his van last month.

In court Wednesday, his lawyer said Alvarado-Rodriguez had a separate criminal case pending and asked the judge to continue the arraignment until Oct. 23.

“[It’s] It wasn’t a random victim like here, but more targeted. I can’t say much about it. “We expect the investigation will likely be completed within the next few weeks,” Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said.

Ramsey says the separate, unrelated charges could send Alvarado-Rodriguez to life in prison.
