ESPN reveals two key dates the Jazz should keep an eye on ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season

With Media Day officially over and training camps officially begun across the league, the action in the 2024-25 NBA season is picking up steam just before the opening of the regular season. It’s no different for the Utah Jazz, as their opener against the Memphis Grizzlies takes place in just under three weeks on October 23rd.

However, beyond the start of the upcoming regular season on the 23rd, there are a few other important dates to note that affect the Jazz at the end of the month – two of which were mentioned by ESPN’s Bobby Marks during his final training camp break.

If we unpack a little about what to look out for in Utah this year, Markings pointed out two important calendar dates to keep an eye on in the days leading up to the start of the regular season, October 21st and 31st:

October 21st: The last day to extend Collin Sexton.

October 31st: The final day to exercise third-year options for Keyonte George, Taylor Hendricks and Brice Sensabaugh, as well as Walker Kessler’s fourth-year option.

Over the past few offseason months, the Jazz have continued to diligently work out new contracts for both of their new free agents, signing their franchise star Lauri Markkanen to a new contract with a maximum term of five years. However, there are still a few outstanding contract details to be resolved with Sexton and Utah’s second/third year players.

The second- and third-year players will likely be held back from their respective options, but the bigger question revolves around what’s in store for Sexton. He currently has two years remaining on his previously signed $70 million contract in 2022 and will seek another payday before hitting unrestricted free agency in 2027.

It remains to be seen whether the Jazz will be able to put pen to paper, but they have just under three weeks to make it happen. The six-year NBA veteran spent his final season in Utah averaging 18.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists, making it one of his most productive years in recent memory.
