Man charged with first-degree assault in Boulder stabbing – Boulder Daily Camera

A man reportedly stabbed another man in the mouth and wrist on Sept. 25 near Broadway and Baseline Road in Boulder.

Charles Burkat-Dukes, 21, is charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.

He is currently in custody on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Oct. 21.

According to an affidavit, Boulder police were dispatched to a disturbance at the intersection of Broadway and Baseline Road at 7:28 p.m.

A man told officers a suspect pulled a knife from a backpack and stabbed him in the mouth and wrist.

When officers interviewed the man, they discovered he had a cut on his wrist and that the blade of a knife had also been stabbed into his right cheek, according to the affidavit. Specifically, police determined that the victim had suffered a cut to his left wrist and a stab wound through his cheek to his mouth.

A witness told police that the suspect boarded an RTD bus wearing a black hoodie after the attack.

According to the affidavit, the officers boarded the bus after stopping the bus at the Table Mesa and Colo. 36 were found and identified Burkat Dukes as the suspect. After officers arrested him and placed him in a patrol car, officers found a knife with a 4-inch blade in his right pocket.

At approximately 8:07 p.m., Burkat-Dukes was formally arrested and questioned by police in the Boulder Police Department’s interrogation room.

During the interview, police noticed Burkat-Dukes had blood stains on his left shoulder, according to the affidavit. He later told officers that the blood on his clothing was his own and denied being involved in the attack.

Burkat-Dukes had refused a warrant out of Georgia for robbery.
