One dead after an officer-involved shooting in southwest Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) – The California Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead in southwest Bakersfield early Wednesday.

Bakersfield police reported responding to a home near the intersection of Stine Road and Belle Terrace shortly after midnight.

BPD says they responded to reports that a homeowner heard voices he didn’t recognize in his home.

When they arrived, they said they contacted a man the resident didn’t know.

According to police, the man became “violent” toward officers, leading to the shooting.

The man was subsequently arrested and taken to this hospital, where he died.
