Man dead, woman seriously injured in stabbing in apartment

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man stabbed his wife multiple times before turning the knife on himself Tuesday after an argument over a divorce, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies described the domestic violence incident as an attempted murder-suicide.

The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries while the man died of his wounds, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesman for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday at her home in the 600 block of 10th Street, east of US 1 and south of the Vero Beach city limits. The couple – in their 60s – got into an argument about their relationship and how it would lead to divorce, Jaworski said.

“The husband armed himself with a knife and stabbed her multiple times,” Jaworski said. “The husband then stabbed himself in the neck.”

The woman was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, Jaworski said. The man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

“Investigators and criminal investigators have recorded the crime scene and are currently investigating the incident.”
