A long-time Wyman & Sons employee is killed in an industrial accident in Eastern PEI

PEI Occupational Safety and Health officials are investigating a workplace accident that killed a longtime employee of Morell-based Jasper Wyman & Sons.

Wade Dover, general manager of the company, confirmed the death of Carter Affleck.

“It is with broken hearts that we confirm that a long-time Wyman’s employee unexpectedly passed away on Monday, September 23rd as a result of a tractor accident during routine field work at our facility on Prince Edward Island,” Dover said in a statement to CBC News Wednesday.

“Our management team met personally with the employee’s family and we have organized grief counseling and additional support services for all Wyman employees as we process this tragic loss together.”

“The circumstances leading to the accident are not fully understood, but we are working closely with local provincial authorities to understand the facts of this tragedy.”

RCMP Cpl. Gavin Moore confirms police found the man’s body in a field in Head of Cardigan. He said once it was determined there was no criminal aspect to the death, the investigation was turned over to the Workers Compensation Board’s Occupational Health and Safety Division.

The department has confirmed it was a work-related death and is investigating.

“The WCB extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased on the loss of their family and community member,” the board said in a statement to CBC News.

Affleck, 68, lived in Mount Stewart. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
