There’s a Rocky Horror Show video game you can play just in time for Hallow

FreakZone, makers of popular indie platformers Spectacular Sparky and Angry Video Game Nerd, are next developing a Rocky Horror Show game that we hope you can play this Halloween. The Rocky Horror Show game is scheduled to release in October 2024 for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Nintendo Switch. Although October has already arrived, there is still no set release date. (Thanks, Eurogamer).

“Experience Brad and Janet’s strange journey like never before in this wild and crazy retro platformer adaptation of Richard O’Brien’s iconic rock ‘n’ roll musical,” reads the game’s official description. “Jump left and dodge right in classic platforming action accompanied by 8-bit chiptune renditions of Rocky Horror’s iconic songs.”

The trailer looks like what you’d get if retro Castlevania were camper – well, campier than it already is – and had less combat. Brad and sometimes Janet hop through deadly dining halls, spooky underground dungeons and frozen research chambers, avoiding spike traps, impeccably dressed skeletons and sudden falls to horrific deaths on their way to and through the mansion.

The Rocky Horror Show soundtrack also adapts surprisingly well to 8-bit chiptune sounds. I wouldn’t consider myself one of the biggest fans of The Rocky Horror Show – it’s just fine! – but this looks like such a creative and unexpected adaptation that I’m really looking forward to playing it later in the spooky season.
