Biden says he does not support attacking Iranian nuclear facilities

US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he does not support attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in response to the missile attack on Israel.

“We will discuss with the Israelis what they are going to do, but all seven of us (G7 nations) agree that they have the right to respond, but the response, but they should respond proportionately,” Biden told reporters, before boarding Air Force One.

Iran fired more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday, a move Biden had previously called “ineffective.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised that Iran would pay for the attack.

Israel’s answer

Some analysts said Israel’s response would likely be sharper this time, suggesting it could target Iran’s nuclear or oil facilities.

Biden told reporters there would be more sanctions against Iran and said he would speak to Netanyahu soon. “Obviously Iran is way off course,” he said.
