Buckhannon City Council member charged with child pornography

A Buckhannon City Council member has been indicted by a federal grand jury on child pornography charges, prosecutors said.

David Walter McCauley, 66, is charged with two counts of production and one count of possession of child pornography, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.

The indictment alleges that McCauley repeatedly enticed a 17-year-old boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct for photo and video production, the release said. The indictment also accuses McCauley of knowingly possessing illegal images on his computer.

McCauley faces at least 15 and up to 30 years in prison on each production charge and up to 10 years on the possession charge.

He previously served as the city’s mayor from 2016 to 2020 and has served on the city council since 2022, according to the city’s website.
