The Washington State Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident on SR167 near Auburn

On Tuesday afternoon, October 1, 2024, a fatal traffic accident between a motorcycle and a car occurred on southbound SR 167, north of SR 18. A Shoreline man was killed and the highway was closed for over three hours.

According to the Washington State Patrol accident report, the accident occurred around 2:12 p.m. when a motorcycle and a Ford Fiesta collided. The motorcyclist, a 66-year-old man from Shoreline, lost control of his vehicle while traveling from westbound SR 18 onto southbound SR 167 in the first lane. His motorcycle then collided with the car, which was traveling southbound in the second lane.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. He was wearing a USDOT-compliant helmet at the time of the accident. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man from Auburn, was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The roadway remained closed for three hours and 16 minutes while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. Traffic was backed up for miles as commuters were diverted out of the area.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but the Washington State Patrol has confirmed that drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the accident.

Both vehicles sustained reportable damage and were removed by Rick’s Towing. The motorcycle involved in the accident was a 2012 Harley-Davidson FLHX and the car was a 2013 Ford Fiesta sedan.
