Tragic accident on Lagos-Badagry highway claims 10 lives

Ten people, including three children and seven adults, were killed in a devastating accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred around 11pm in Abule Osun area when a Toyota Sienna vehicle overloaded with passengers collided with a stationary truck.

According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the investigation revealed that the Sienna was traveling at high speed without taking into account the granite-laden truck that was parked and blocking half of the roadway .

Oke-Osanyintolu explained: “Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the Toyota Sienna with registration number BDG 342 FS was involved in a collision with a parked SHACMAN truck.” He explained that the truck loaded with granite was taking up a lot of space the road, which led to the tragic accident.

Ten people were killed in the accident, including three male adults, four female adults, two female children and one male child.

Three other people were injured in the collision. The injured were immediately rescued by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials and transported to a nearby hospital.

The LASEMA team arrived shortly after the FRSC to help manage the situation. Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that the deceased would be handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for necessary procedures to be carried out. The Toyota Sienna involved in the accident was recovered and towed to the FRSC station for further investigation.
