ShotSpotter warns Newark police of shots fired in West Ward

Newark police officers are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the city’s West Ward Tuesday evening.

Preliminary reports indicate that a ShotSpotter device was activated at approximately 5:00 p.m 9:32 p.mand warned authorities of gunfire nearby 362 South Orange Ave.

Upon arrival, police units searched the area and discovered several bullet casings, prompting them to secure the scene.

South 11th Street, from South Orange Avenue to 14th Avenue, was cordoned off while officers conducted a thorough search for potential victims.

After an extensive search, Newark police reported that no injuries were found.

The suspect, who fled the scene, remains at large as authorities continue their investigation. Criminal activity and occasional shootings often occur in the immediate area.

Newark Police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact local law enforcement.
