Tragic suicide: 63-year-old woman found after self-immolation in Neyyattinkara |

Thiruvananthapuram: A woman is said to have taken her own life Self-immolation at Neyyattinkara on Tuesday evening. She reportedly doused herself with kerosene before setting herself on fire.
Her family noticed she was missing from home on Wednesday morning. After a search conducted by them, her body was found in the yard in a partially burnt condition.
The deceased was identified by police as Prabhavathy, 63, daughter of Savithri Amma of Krishna Gopuram Veedu in Venpakal. The woman had been staying at her daughter’s house for the past few months.
Neyyattinkara police registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita for unnatural death and initiated an investigation.
According to her family, the woman lost her husband twelve years ago and has not been doing well mentally since then. She was undergoing treatment mental illness and there have been cases when she disappeared from the house.
“She has been completely fine for the last two months and even had dinner with us on Tuesday night. She was found missing on Wednesday morning and her body was discovered in the yard with her head and chest completely burned. Since there were no other houses nearby, no one noticed her taking this extreme step at night,” said Krishna Kumar, son of the deceased.
The forensic team conducted an inspection and confirmed the presence of kerosene at the spot. “There is nothing unusual about the fact that she could have died suicide” said the police.
After a post-mortem and post-mortem examination at the Medical College Hospital, her body was cremated at Santhikavadam on Wednesday evening.
