“The Kelly Clarkson Show” honors the Pike Place Market Foundation in the “Good Neighbor” segment.

KOMO’s own Tyrah Majors and Denise Whitaker will appear on Friday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show to help bring national attention to the nonprofit Pike Place Market Foundation.

The moment is part of the show’s “Good Neighbor” segment, in which Clarkson’s show highlights and recognizes people and organizations making a difference in their community.

“When most people think of Seattle, they probably associate the rain, the Space Needle and of course the legendary Pike Place Market,” Majors continued The Kelly Clarkson Show.“But the market isn’t just known for its famous red sign out front, fresh flowers and fish throwing! People don’t know that there’s this amazing non-profit organization behind it too. The Pike Place Market Foundation is committed to ensuring people have access. This community is supported in its market businesses and has access not only to fresh market food, but also to affordable senior housing and healthcare.”

Patricia Gray of the Pike Place Market Foundation was also at the majors in New York City for the taping.

“These are not your big farmers. These are small, mostly first or second generation immigrant farmers who, in many cases, rent a small piece of land, grow their goods and bring them to market every day. They rely on theirs.” When a crop fails or farm equipment breaks down, we recognize that there is no safety net for these farmers. “More than $700,000 has flowed to farmers in the market through small business grants,” Gray said on the show.

Whitaker joined The Kelly Clarkson Show live with the market farmers and several community members from Pike Place Market.

Experience the entire feature – along with a special surprise – on Friday, October 4th at 2 p.m. on KOMO 4.
