Shooting threat found on desk at Blake High School

Shooting threat found on desk at Blake High School

A written shooting threat targeting a student was discovered at James Hubert Blake High School on Monday.

According to a letter from Principal Shanay Snead, the threat “was also reported to school administrators by concerned students after an image of the written threat was shared on social media.” The message was intended to indicate that a shooting would occur, and was addressed to an individual student.

The note found on a student’s desk was unsigned.

Snead wrote a second letter Tuesday noting the school opened without incident.

Montgomery County police officers have been notified of the threat and are currently investigating the school, the school’s principal said.

Montgomery County Public Schools’ Office of Systemwide Safety and Emergency Management staff are working to “help ensure we have a safe and positive school environment,” Snead wrote.

He promised to keep the Blake community updated as more is found out.

“We take incidents like this very seriously as the safety of our students, staff and visitors at James Hubert Blake High School is our top priority,” Snead wrote in the first letter.

Security at school is currently being “tightened” and will also apply on Wednesday.
