CRPF: Tragic suicide of CRPF cop in Amethi raises mental health concerns | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: A CRPF policeman allegedly shot himself with one Service rifle in Ramganj area Amethi on Tuesday evening. He was rushed to Sultanpur Medical College where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police sent the body for an autopsy.
The deceased police officer was identified as Sushant Kumar Sheel (37), a native of Assamese, who worked as a gardener at the CRPF camp in Trisundi, Amethi.
Sources in the CRPF told TOI that Sushant shot himself in his room around 8.30 pm after borrowing a service rifle from his colleague. Hearing a gunshot, other soldiers rushed to the scene and took him to the local hospital from where he was referred to the government medical college in Sultanpur.
CRPF Deputy Inspector General Rajendra Prasad told TOI that preliminary investigations suggested that Sushant had committed an act suicide but in addition to an independent police investigation, the department would also conduct a detailed investigation.
“Sushant was posted here for the last 32 months and had slipped into depression following a financial crisis. We had also conducted his consultation several times,” he added.
