Woman found dead in vehicle after car crashes into Cooper City canal

COOPER CITY, Fla. — A man survived and a woman died after the vehicle they were in plowed into a canal in Cooper City Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.

According to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesman Carey Codd, the accident was reported around 6 a.m. in the area of ​​Griffin Road and Southwest 90th Avenue.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies and EMS responded to the scene.

Codd said a man managed to escape the submerged vehicle, but a woman was found dead in the car by the BSO dive team.

Investigators from the BSO Traffic Homicide Squad are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.

As of 8:30 a.m., the westbound lanes of Griffin Road remained closed from Pine Island Road to the 8800 block of Griffin Road.

Orange Drive was also shut down between the 8700 and 8800 blocks.

The identities of those involved in the crash have not been released.
