Iran attacks Israel live: Israeli military reports first combat death in Lebanon

Iran attacks Israel live: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that Iran would “pay the price” for launching more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday. US President Joe Biden supported his ally Israel, saying: “The attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective, and this is a testament to the military capability of Israel and the US military.”

He added: “Make no mistake, the United States fully supports Israel.”

Iran had said its attack was purely defensive in nature and in response to killings of militant leaders and attacks by Israel in Lebanon. The attacks will be “completed” by Iran unless they are provoked again by Israel, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, Israel also continued its attacks on Lebanon on Tuesday, leaving 55 people dead and 156 others injured.

The UN Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting for Wednesday to discuss the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

A military spokesman said this AFP that Israel had begun ground invasions in Lebanon and would continue to launch attacks across the Middle East in response to Iran’s attacks.
