Criminal gang caught, 4 detained; Weapons confiscated

The city police claimed to have busted a criminal gang with the arrest of four miscreants here today. The arrested suspects were Anwar Singh (28) alias Jambu, Gurpreet Singh alias Kaka (27), Akashdeep (25) and Suraj Singh (26), all residents of Maqboolpura area. Police recovered a 12-caliber double-barreled pistol and a 32-caliber pistol from the suspects. Police said her accomplice Sandeep Singh alias Ladi was being brought out of jail on a production warrant.

Harpal Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-3), Amritsar, said police arrested Anwar Singh and Gurpreet Singh near Vallah Bridge and recovered a 12-bore double-barreled pistol and a 12-bore pistol guaranteed to them.

During questioning, the duo revealed the names of their accomplices Akashdeep and Suraj Singh, who were arrested by the police, the ADCP said. He said their other accomplice Sandeep Singh alias Ladi, who was in jail in a case under the NDPS Act, would be produced on a production warrant. ACP Gurinderbir Singh said Anwar already has five criminal cases pending against him while Gurpreet has 12 criminal cases registered against him.

Akashdeep was involved in two kidnapping cases and two cases under the NDPS Act were registered against Suraj. 18 criminal cases were filed against Sandeep Singh. A fresh case was registered at Maqboolpura police station under Section 3 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against suspects.
