Bishop Melanie Rogers Miller of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church beamed after Delphine Metcalf-Foster (pictured 4th and 5th from right) was presented with the gavel. Miller is a retired first lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and only the second female bishop in its more than 200-year history. Metcalf-Foster is a retired U.S. Army master sergeant, was the first female national commander of the 1 million-member Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in 2017-18 and is commander of the DAV Ozie Boler Chapter 21 in Vallejo.
On September 27, nearly 100 friends attended the Vallejo Together (VT) “Maria Guevara Gala” at Moose Lodge #468 in Vallejo. Guevara founded VT in 2010 as a volunteer-led and volunteer-driven initiative. Several speakers spoke of Maria’s selfless and passionate commitment to Vallejo’s homeless and marginalized residents. On September 28th, Loma Vista Farm hosted a Pasta Feed & Auction at the Florence Douglas Center with nearly 200 guests. This major fundraising effort will help fund new cow habitat, but much more is needed to reach the goal of raising $2.5 million to fully fund the entire master plan.
