JD Vance and Tim Walz face off in the final scheduled debate of the election season

Vice presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz will face off on stage in New York tonight at 9 p.m. ET for the final scheduled debate of the election season.

Here’s what you should know:

– NPR journalists in Washington DC and across the country will be covering the debate all evening here in this live blog – with updates, analysis, fact checks and color. There will also be special radio coverage from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. AST on many public radio stations and on the NPR app.

– Can Vance clean up controversial comments and improve his low popularity rating? How might Walz respond to the allegations about his military career and Harris’ changing attitudes? Here are six things to keep in mind.

– According to debate rules: Each candidate has two minutes to answer each question, then the other has two minutes to respond. Each candidate is given one minute for further rebuttals and, in some cases, an additional minute each to continue the discussion.
