Mayor McNamara launches re-election campaign

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara is announcing his bid for re-election with an event at the Hard Rock Casino on Tuesday.

First elected in 2017, McNamara says he and his team have worked hard to make Rockford the place residents deserve.

“We have seen the culture of our community and the tenor of our community change from a community that used to talk about missed opportunities to Rockford and our region now seeing great success,” McNamara says.

According to McNamara, his administration is the only one not to increase property taxes. He says Rockford will have its lowest property tax rate since 1985.

If re-elected, fighting crime would be the top priority.

“It’s down 34 percent since I was elected, but we need another drop,” McNamara said.

According to his campaign website, other priorities include neighborhoods and economic development.
