Utah man is charged with offering money for the sexual abuse of a child

WEST VALLEY CITY — A Utah man is facing criminal charges after police say he paid a father $250 to have sex with his 10-year-old daughter.

It turned out that the father was an undercover agent for the State Bureau of Investigations.

Jacob Paul Hare, 43, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with attempted rape of a child, attempted sodomy of a child and human trafficking of a child, all first-degree felonies.

Hare, who police said had the username “CanIRentYourKidsForSex,” is accused of contacting a state official on Sept. 26 who was posing as the father online. According to charging documents, Hare ultimately agreed to pay the father $250 for sexually abusing his daughter.

“’CanIRentYourKidsForSex’ was very concerned that he would be arrested by law enforcement and arranged a very specific meeting to ensure that he would not be arrested, stating he would wear a mask and hoodie to ensure that his Photo would not be taken and he would not be identifiable,” the indictment says.

Initially, investigators said Hare failed to show up at the arranged meeting point, claiming he was caught in traffic. He also “told the undercover agent that he was chatting online with another minor and was trying to arrange a sexual encounter with that minor as well,” the indictment says.

Hare then told the officer he was trying to “convince” his wife to sleep so he could sneak out of the house and sexually abuse the girl, the charges say. This time, when he arrived at the designated meeting point, a hotel in West Valley City, he was taken into custody.

After his arrest, Hare allegedly told investigators that he suffered from an “uncontrollable sexual addiction” and “admitted that he had met and had sex with at least one other minor in the past.” however, he did not ask her age,” court documents state.
