Lynchburg Crumbl donates proceeds to the family of the manager and shooting victim

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — A man was killed in a shooting on Water Gate Drive in Lynchburg. Now Lynchburg police are looking for suspects.

Police tell us that when they arrived in the 100 block of Water Gate Drive, they found a man lying in the street with gunshot wounds. They said officers tried to save him, but he died from his injuries at the scene.

The victim was 36-year-old Anthony Dwight Davis.

Police Chief Ryan Zuidema said in a news conference Tuesday, “We believe based on witness statements that more than one person was involved in the incident on Water Gate Drive, and therefore we will attempt to identify all individuals.”

We learned that Davis was a manager at the Crumbl cookie shop in Lynchburg.

When the owner and his employees found out this morning, they were as heartbroken as one can imagine.

The owner, Patrick Gardner, said he faces two choices: close the store or stay open. “And I told them that if we choose to stay open, everything we do today will 100 percent benefit his family. So we hope the community comes forward and supports them.”

They are donating all proceeds from Tuesday’s sale to Davis’ family.

“He has two older sons, he has a younger son. He has a small son. His mother and his aunt came here this morning to tell us the news and obviously our hearts are broken, they’re broken for them, I hope it helps,” said Gardner.

People who worked with Davis said he was the heartbeat of their business. You said he was good to the employees and was the type of person you would like to have running your store.

While we were at the store, I saw many people who had heard about the shooting come in to support their efforts.

The owner said he raised over $7,000 for Davis’ family on Tuesday.
