‘Sterlin Harjo’ Drama Pilot Starring Ethan Hawke Picked Up at FX

FX has picked up Sterling Harjo’s pilot starring Ethan Hawke, Deadline has confirmed.

In February, we broke the news that the project had received a pilot order, reuniting Harjo, co-creator, executive producer and showrunner of the network’s acclaimed series Reservation dogswith Hawke, who appeared in the penultimate episode of the Emmy-nominated series.

The drama, created by Harjo, is a Tulsa noir about a man (Hawke) who knows too much.

The pilot cast includes Keith David, Siena East, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Scott Shepherd, Tracy Letts, Kyle Maclachlan and Macon Blair.

We spoke with Harjo on the Emmys red carpet (video above), where he shared his excitement about his new collaboration with Hawke.

“There’s a pilot I did this year The sensitive kind starring Ethan Hawke – I think it’s coming,” he shared.

When I asked him if that meant it was recorded, Harjo smiled nervously and said, “I kind of can’t say, but… it’s coming and it’s going to be great.”

Harjo also serves as writer and director of the pilot, which he executive produces with Hawke and Garrett Basch. The project falls under Harjo’s overall deal with FX Productions, the project’s studio.

The order for the series follows immediately Reservation dogs is ending its award-winning three-season run on FX, as the network’s frontrunner John Landgraf told Deadline this week that he and his team are focused on finding worthy successors Reservation dogs and the handful of other successful series that ended last year.

Today it was announced that Harjo was the only filmmaker in the group to be named to the 2024 MacArthur Fellows list alongside performing and visual artists, writers, scientists, historians and activists.

Variety was first to confirm the drama’s official release.
