Tragic suicide of Gandhinagar couple after intimate video blackmail | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: A Gandhinagar couple committed suicide on Sept. 21 allegedly after two men secretly filmed their intimate moments and used the video to demand a sexual relationship with the girl, police said Tuesday. The defendant denied having made such a video.
24-year-old Sahil Thakor and his 16-year-old girlfriend jumped into the Narmada Canal due to extortion, said the FIR filed by Sahil’s cousin Sunil Thakor.
The accused Ashfaq Rathod (25) and Shahrukh Belim (24) from Chhala village in Gandhinagar were arrested on Saturday for abetment to suicide. Chiloda Police said.
Police had initially filed a case of accidental death after their bodies were fished out of the canal.
About a week before the suicides, Sahil Sunil had told that Rathod and Belim, an autorickshaw driver, threatened to make the video viral. “Rathod and Belim forced Sahil to convince his girlfriend to have a relationship with both of them. Sahil was against it. Sahil and his girlfriend were harassed and ended their lives,” Sunil stated in the FIR.
Chiloda police inspector RR Parmar said the accused were remanded after a day of remand, adding that the accused deleted the videos from their phones and denied shooting the intimate videos of the couple. They claimed to have a video of the couple sitting together.
They have been charged with aiding and abetting suicide and police are continuing to investigate.
