Tragic suicide attempt by a family of five in Hyderabad leaves one dead |

Hyderabad: An unemployed engineering graduate has died and four members of his family are recovering after they allegedly attempted suicide at their residence in Saroornagar late on Monday night. The family therefore took the extreme step financial problemssaid the police.
Vuluchala Venkateshwara Prasad, 60, a native of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, migrated to the city a decade ago and lived in Kodandaram Nagar along with his wife Latha, 55, sons Sandeep, 30, who works for an MNC, Sai Swaroop , Saroornagar , 28, who runs a kirana shop with his father, and Vamshi Krishna26, had an engineering degree and was looking for a job.
Due to financial constraints, the family members have reportedly borrowed up to ₹30 lakh from different people. Since they were broke, the debt and surrounding problems put additional strain on the family. Reportedly, the family members were angered by these issues and attempted suicide by consuming pesticides in their rented section. However, after the attempt, Prasad alerted a neighbor who in turn alerted the Saroornagar police.
As the family members locked the door from inside, police broke into the house and took them to Osmania Hospital, where Vamshi Krishna succumbed while undergoing treatment around 2 am on Tuesday. Other members were out of danger and currently recovering.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, said Saroornagar station house officer V. Saidi Reddy.
