Detective asks for help finding Betsy Lane shooting suspect

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Less than a month after a Lexington mother of four was killed in a drive-by shooting outside a child’s birthday party, police said they are searching for two brothers in connection with the shooting.

Esmeralda Rodriguez Perez, 28, was killed on Betsy Lane in Lexington on September 8 while attending a child’s birthday party.

Bluegrass Crime Stoppers is asking for help locating 22-year-old Brian Marquez Chavez and 18-year-old Kevin Marquez Chavez, who have been identified as suspects.

There are arrest warrants against both men, including for murder and attempted murder.

“Of course, this case, like any other, is extremely sad,” said Det. Kristyn Klingshirn with Bluegrass Crime Stoppers. “But there is some danger when they are in public. “So any help we can get in locating her whereabouts would be helpful in helping investigators locate her.”

Rodriguez Perez left behind a husband and four young children, including a five-month-old.

“I think that’s what hurts me the most,” said her sister, Kimberly Perez. “That she won’t see him. That I feel like she didn’t have enough time with him.”

Det. Klingshirn says no detail is too small. She hopes someone will come forward to help give the grieving family some closure.

“Anything that caught your eye,” she told LEX 18. “A noise, a car, anything that stood out and caught your attention. Even if it was just for a second, you noticed it for a reason.”

If you have any information on the suspects’ whereabouts, call police or Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at 859-253-2020. All tips can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
