Medical emergency, probable cause of fatal accident

EASTON TOWNSHIP – A 78-year-old Ionia woman was killed in a car accident on the West Bluewater Highway Monday.

On Monday at 1:14 p.m., a white Ford Focus was traveling westbound on West Bluewater Highway near Bertha Brock Park in Easton Township.

The driver, a 78-year-old woman from Ionia, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was suspected of having a medical emergency. The vehicle left the road to the right and collided with a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the crash and the events leading up to it. The Sheriff’s Office is working diligently to understand the circumstances that led to this devastating outcome.

The crash is still under investigation.
