Person dead, SUV crashes into building after police chase in McKinley Park – NBC Chicago

One person is dead and several others were injured after a vehicle fleeing a traffic stop rammed an SUV and crashed into a building in Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood Tuesday morning.

According to Chicago police, Priority Response Team officers were in the 5500 block of South Pulaski when they saw two people get into a black sedan.

As officers began their investigation, the sedan fled the scene at a high rate of speed while officers pursued the vehicle. The vehicle entered an intersection in the 3500 block of South Ashland, where it struck an SUV and then crashed into a nearby building.

According to police, the sedan’s passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan was injured and was taken into custody.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, police said.

Weapons were recovered from the suspect vehicle and the investigation is ongoing. Due to the police chase, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability is also investigating the accident.

According to Total Traffic, Ashland will remain closed between 35 p.mTh Street and South Robinson for an investigation and cleanup following the crash. Several CTA bus routes in the area were also rerouted, officials said.

Further information is expected to be released on Tuesday.
