Criminal Investigation and Scientific Police Training Program – Medafrica Times

Cape Verde is strengthening the investigative capacity of its judicial and scientific police through a training program for inspectors, security guards and laboratory technicians to enable them to tackle increasingly “sophisticated and modern” forms of crime, the Minister of Justice announced September 30.

Speaking to the press before the launch of the six-month training program, Minister Joana Rosa emphasized that this initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to combat crime. The aim is to combat cybercrime and financial crime, while also combating urban crime and crimes against vulnerable groups such as children and women.

“Crime knows no borders and we need a highly qualified and well-trained criminal investigation department with more staff.” “Today marks an important step with the training of 74 new members, including inspectors, security guards and laboratory technicians,” explained Rosa.

The minister underlined the government’s commitment to providing better working conditions for the scientific police and focusing on criminal investigations, supporting the prosecution and promoting a safe and fair environment.
The government program to institutionally strengthen the criminal investigation department and improve laboratory capacities is being fulfilled, the minister said.

While acknowledging that the Criminal Investigation Department has carried out its duties effectively, the Minister expressed confidence that the recruitment of these new personnel will further improve its ability to conduct investigations, provide prompt responses and ensure social peace.
