‘Will not be afraid…’: Congress after ED indicts CM Siddaramaiah over alleged MUDA scam

NEW DELHI: After the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) charged Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah with money laundering in a case related to the alleged MUDA land allotment scam, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday said that from Delhi from day one Attempts were made to shake and destabilize the Government of Karnataka.

Addressing a press conference, Jairam Ramesh said that the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will complete its five-year term.

“From day one, May 25, 2023, attempts are being made from Delhi to shake and destabilize the (Karnataka) government. Cases are registered, Income Tax, CBI and now ED. This is an attempt to scare us. This is the politics of revenge and harassment. We will not be afraid, whatever needs to be investigated must be investigated. The truth will come out. “The mandate given to the Karnataka government by the people for 5 years, we will fulfill and all the promised guarantees will be fulfilled,” Jairam said.

CM Siddaramaiah today toughened his stance on the allegations related to the MUDA land scam. He reiterated that he would not resign and identified himself as a witness to the matter.

Siddaramaiah also distinguished his situation from that of BS Yediyurappa and explained that the former chief minister’s case was about land dedication while he was not involved in such matters. He also expressed his intention to address the situation legally, regardless of investigations by law enforcement or other agencies.

“BS Yediyurappa’s case and mine are different cases. He has designated land and I am not involved in it. I will not resign as a witness. Whether ED or anything else, I will fight it in court,” he said.

He stated that the land in question was gifted to his wife by her brother and that MUDA had encroached on it. He explained that his wife had requested an alternative location but did not mention Vijayanagara but it was allotted to her.

The Mysuru Lokayukta today officially commenced investigation and investigation into the case related to the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment scam after a court order was passed on September 27 to file an FIR directing it to conduct an investigation against Siddaramaiah for alleging illegalities in the allotment of 14 plots worth Rs 56 crore to his wife Parvathi by the MUDA.
