Riverhead Police Report: August 2024

Riverhead Town police reported 208 crimes, filed 117 criminal reports and made 106 arrests in July, according to a monthly crime report released by Police Chief Ed Frost in September.

According to the police chief’s report, the crimes reported in August included:

  • Serious bodily harm – 2
  • Basic Attack – 29
  • Intimidation – 6
  • Burglary/burglary – 3
  • Shoplifting – 29
  • Pickpocketing – 2
  • Theft from a motor vehicle – 13
  • All other thefts – 10
  • Counterfeit/Counterfeit – 1
  • Identity theft – 2
  • Destruction/damage/vandalism of property – 21
  • Drug/narcotics violations – 7
  • Weapons law violations – 2
  • Driving under the influence – 51
  • Trespass – 10
  • All other crimes – 20

The August report only reflects data from the National Incident-Based Reporting System. The National Incident-Based Reporting System, known as NIBRS, is a crime data reporting system implemented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. The Riverhead Police Department’s reporting transitioned entirely to NIBRS in July. The following criminal charges were filed in August:

  • Aggravated Unauthorized Operation – 3
  • Attack – 2
  • Conspiracy to commit a crime – 1
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance – 7
  • Criminal Contempt – 4
  • Criminal possession of anti-security items – 1
  • Criminal possession of weapons – 1
  • Driving with reduced performance – 3
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol – 30
  • Violent touching – 1
  • Harassment – ​​6
  • Threatening – 2
  • Petty theft – 11
  • Violation of city code – 14
  • Trespass – 2
  • Unlawful contact with a child – 6
  • Unlawful possession of fireworks -1
  • Vehicle and traffic law – 1
  • Arrest warrant – 19

According to the report, of the 106 people arrested in August, 68 were in custody.

Police reported 78 domestic incidents in August.

The city issued 1,109 citations in August: 64 city code violations, 762 traffic tickets and 283 parking fines.

In August, police reported 2,695 non-criminal incidents.
