Fortnite parents can now limit their children’s playtime

Parents and guardians of Fortnite-obsessed kids can now set in-game time limits for how long kids can play.

The time limit controls introduced in Fortnite today do exactly what they promise. These are set in-game via the Parental Controls section of Fortnite or online via the Epic Account portal, and allow parents to set playtime limits and specific playtime windows.

Parents can even choose to have their child request more time while the minutes count down.

Time reports, viewable online, then show the results of all this: how long the game was played per day, with totals for the week so far, and any additional time.

How does this look in the game? Kids will see pop-up notifications reminding them of the time left for that day, starting when the clock reaches 30 minutes before the end.

There’s also a button to ask for more time – which you can use to email your parents.

Epic Games has had numerous legal complaints over purchases and parental controls in the past, but the company has responded by introducing numerous parental controls features in recent years. Options for parents already in the game include restrictions on voice and text chat, adult language, adding friends, making payments, or accessing higher-rated content.

It’s been a busy week for Fortnite and its maker Epic Games, as the company launches a new lawsuit against Google and Samsung in an attempt to gain a stronger foothold in the mobile space. We also learned today that the next batch of notable crossovers are on the horizon, including Shaq, Saw and Leatherface.
