A girl says “this is a way to become famous” after stabbing two teachers and a teenager at school, the jury hears

A 13-year-old girl told police: “This is one way to be a celebrity” after stabbing two teachers and another teenager at a school in Wales, a court has heard.

CCTV footage played at Swansea Crown Court showed the girl attacking the two teachers at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, also known as Amman Valley School, in Ammanford on April 24.

She was then seen stabbing another girl at the school in Carmarthenshire before being disarmed by staff.

Opening the trial in court on Monday, prosecutor William Hughes KC said she told officers after her arrest: “I’m pretty sure this is going to be in the news. So there will be more eyes on me. This is one way to be a celebrity.”

Mr Hughes said she also asked: “Are they dead?”, adding: “How will I face my family after what I have done?”

The court heard the girl described the attack on the teenager to officers saying: “I stabbed her, oopses.”

Mr Hughes said the girl confronted deputy headteacher Fiona Elias in the schoolyard and told her: “I’m going to kill you, I’m going to bloody kill you” before launching her attack with a multiple attack. Tool her father used for fishing.

The video showed Ms. Elias with fellow teacher Liz Hopkin, who immediately intervened.

Mr Hughes said Ms Hopkin ended up suffering more serious injuries to her back, neck, legs and arms and had to be airlifted for treatment.

He said teachers later said the girl had “lost it.”

Footage played in court showed a number of teachers quickly arriving and speaking to the girl, trying to calm her down in “a sort of standoff”. Staff later said she had a “blank expression.”

But the girl pushed past the male staff, ran around a corner and attacked another teenager.

The prosecutor said the defendant also said to that girl, “I’m going to fucking kill you.”

Mr Hughes said police found a notebook in the girl’s home with a drawing of a woman and a reference to the teenager she attacked at school. One comment said the girl would “burn” and another said “cuts in her mouth and eyes.”

They also found a drawing labeled “Mrs Frogface Elias.”

The jury was told the defendant admitted assaulting all three people at school. She pleaded guilty to three counts of wounding with intent and one count of possessing a bladed article on school grounds.

The girl denies three charges of attempted murder in connection with the incident.

Mr Hughes told the jury: “[The girl] does not deny that she caused these injuries.

“She denies that she caused these injuries with the intent to kill one, two or all three of them.”

He said: “[The girl] I obviously thought badly of Ms. Elias and [the teenager who was injured] given the content of the drawings and the words that accompany them.”

The prosecutor said Ms Hopkin was the most seriously injured and had to be flown to Cardiff where she was treated for stab wounds to the knee, lower leg, chest and under the shoulder blade. But the worst wound was on her neck.

Ms Elias and the teenager were taken to Swansea Hospital where they were also treated for stab wounds.

The trial was adjourned and will continue on Wednesday.
