The 11th (penultimate) episode of No profit, no love aired on Monday, September 30, sparking a storm of unbridled online discussion. A reboot of the decades-old K-drama archetype of the viral “Kimchi Splap” tradition sparked by MBC’s morning drama Any kimchi! According to AllKpop, the 2024 TVN series gives it a modern twist. In the brand new dramatic scene, Lee Sang Yi’s character Bok Kyu Hyun treated a serial killer with his own medicine and an unparalleled choice of weapons. Although they initially appeared to be two glow-in-the-dark sticks, fans had to take a second look when they realized that the items in Kyu Hyun’s hands were actually dildos.

Reactions to the viral “dildo attack” scene in No Gain No Love

The stunning revelation has undoubtedly divided the K-drama fan base. While one side was busy gasping with unstoppable laughter, the other side was annoyed by the crude visualization. Viewers eventually discovered that separate versions of the scene were being distributed on different platforms. Although the OTT audience may have caught a glimpse of the sex toys, the television broadcast reflected a different picture.

“I’ll explain the crazy reason behind the glow-in-the-dark dildo scene so they don’t have to take a loss. They actually shot two versions for tvN and TVING. The broadcast version needed to be toned down even more than just using a blur, completely obscuring the shape with a glowing effect. The funny thing is that actor Lee Sang Yi had to film the glow-in-the-dark scene twice for both versions. It’s so hilarious, I can’t stop laughing,” reads the English translation of one X user’s tweet.

“Gyuhyun beats up Jayeon’s dad with a glow-in-the-dark dildo!!!! “I CAN’T BREATHE THIS KDRAMA IS UNSERIOUS,” one fan wrote on X/Twitter, bursting into laughter at the incredulous choice.

Another viewer wrote: “This show will make you cry and laugh at the same time. He spanked him with DILDOS, I’m screaming.”

A fourth fan of the show exclaimed at the unpredictable move: “I’ve never been able to handle the accusations of not being serious and when I thought they couldn’t make that intense scene funny, I was wrong because the fight sequence was so good and there you go.” , Gyuhyun fighting with dildos “like lightsabers”

On the other side of the microblogging platform, some were outraged by the “unclassical” scene. Although the majority appeared to be rolling on the floor (ROFLing) with laughter, there was undeniable pushback from some who called the show “terrifying” and the viral moment “disgusting.”

Aside from the English tweets, many comments from Korean netizens even agreed with the previous view of the show’s unusually creative hilarity.

Others also cheered No profit, no love as a “crazy drama” but for all the hilarious reasons. Meanwhile, some comments also surfaced for the author (Kim Hye Young), calling her a “genius.”
