A 14-year-old girl suffers potentially life-changing injuries in an ‘acid attack’ at a London school UK News

A young girl suffered potentially life-changing injuries after a suspected acidic substance was thrown at students and staff at a school in west London, police said.

Officers on patrol were stopped by staff at the Alfred Road school – believed to be Westminster Academy – at 4.42pm on Monday after the substance was allegedly thrown.

A statement on the academy’s website Tuesday said the school was closed.

Officers who responded with paramedics and the London Fire Brigade found three injured people, including a 14-year-old girl “whose injuries could potentially be life-changing” and who remains in hospital, police said.

A 16-year-old boy, whose injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing, also remains in hospital, while a 27-year-old woman has been released from hospital.

Two officers were taken to hospital as a precaution after they reported feeling unwell.

“Substance testing is ongoing,” the Metropolitan Police said. “At this point, officials believe it is acidic. Urgent investigations are underway to identify and arrest those responsible. There are a number of crime scenes.”

Police said anyone who witnessed the incident or had information that could help should call 101 quoting reference CAD 4987/30 Sept. To remain anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
