One person was killed and three others were hospitalized in a single-car rollover crash on the SR-134-I-5 highway in Griffith Park early Sunday morning.

It happened around 12:50 p.m. on the stretch of road connecting the eastbound 134 Freeway to the southbound 5 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

Emergency responders determined that one person was dead at the scene, while three others, all men, were taken to a nearby hospital. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, at least one of the victims is believed to be in serious condition, while the others are in critical condition.

Late Sunday, the deceased victim was identified as 19-year-old Aileen Ruiz.

Upon arrival, officers found a white sedan rolled onto its roof and partially blocking the far right lane. They said the car was “torn apart by fire.”

The force of the impact threw one person from the car and left two others trapped inside. The firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to rescue the person. According to the fire department, the fourth victim was able to free himself.

Investigators released additional information about the accident, saying the 20-year-old man driving the sedan lost control of the car while traveling southbound on I-5 and making a right turn. The car then hit the metal guardrail and overturned.

They do not believe drugs or alcohol were responsible for the accident.

No further information was provided and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
