Jenna Coleman’s popular British period drama is now available on Netflix

Victoriastarring Jenna Coleman as British monarch Queen Victoria, was added to Netflix today (October 1).

The historical drama, which first aired on ITV in 2016, traces Victoria’s early life, with a particular focus on her marriage to her husband Prince Albert (played by Tom Hughes).

The first season covers the years 1837 to 1840, in which Victoria ascended to the throne at the age of just 18. The former matriarch’s close relationship with Prime Minister Lord Melbourne (portrayed by Rufus Sewell), who served as her advisor in the early years, is also dramatized.

The historical drama, which consists of three seasons in total, then touches on various points in British and German royal history, all against the background of the family life of Victoria and Albert. They had a total of six children together – we don’t want to tell you anything here, but the third season ends with a cliffhanger and there are no plans for a fourth season.

Jenna Coleman, perhaps best known for her roles in Doctor Who And Waterloo RoadShe most recently appeared in BBC One’s crime drama The jettywhich was released earlier this year.

Victoria joins a line-up of the best British dramas on Netflix – with Mr. Bates versus the Post Office Star Toby Jones’ forgotten BBC drama Capital city recently made it to the streaming service (and is now trending in the top 10).

Just last week, Sky’s Gangs of London – starring Paapa Essiedu, Joe Cole and Sope Dirisu – debuted on the platform, and Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard’s dark comedy breeder is now also on Netflix.
