3 brothers who run coaching classes in SoBo have been sexually abusing minors for several years; 2 arrested

Three brothers who own a coaching center in south Bombay have been booked by Mumbai police for allegedly sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl on multiple occasions over about two years. The girl told authorities that the brothers sexually abused her while forcing her to show up at the center early and leave later. Following this incident on Friday, September 27, a complaint was filed against three brothers after contact was made by representatives of a child development center where the victim confided to a counselor about the sexual assault in March this year.

Police arrested two brothers on Saturday, September 28th. The police are looking for the eldest brother who is on the run.

They are 24, 25 and 27 years old and live in South Mumbai. They run courses for children in grades 7 to 12.

After her parents divorced and she moved in with her mother, the victim enrolled at the coaching center in 2022, according to authorities. She started attending coaching classes and a new school. She had little contact with teachers and classmates at her new school. According to police, her mother contacted the child development center in January 2023 when she observed behavioral changes in her daughter in late 2022.

She attended the development center for about four months but dropped out in May 2023. But in February this year she returned to the development center and in March she told a counselor that the three brothers had sexually abused her several times. However, police added that she asked the counselor to keep this a secret from her mother out of fear of social stigma. In March she also stopped taking part in the coaching courses.

Although the counselor informed her mother, both mother and daughter refused to report the incident to the police. But late on Friday evening, representatives of the child development institution went to the police and lodged a complaint under existing provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012, which deal with molestation, rape, unnatural sexual intercourse and criminal Intimidation.

According to the lawyer’s statement, the 25-year-old defendant began contacting her by sending her regular messages after she found out about her parents’ divorce. By showing compassion for her family’s situation and taking her along for two films, he gained her trust and self-confidence. The complaint states: “She felt uncomfortable after the defendant touched her inappropriately at the theater.”

The girl eventually revealed to counselors that she had been sexually abused several times during coaching sessions by the other two brothers, aged 24 and 27. The elder brother also sexually assaulted her at the coaching center and at his house near the facility between July and December 2023, a police officer said. He added that the 24-year-old had reportedly been abusing her since 2022.

The police announced this Almost 35 to 40 girls attended the coaching course of these three brothersand they are investigating whether the three teachers similarly targeted other students. After appearing in court, the two arrested defendants were taken into police custody.
